Background - Warren Langman - 40 years dedicated to bodybuilding

Warren Langman can best be described as one of the pioneers of our beloved sport who dedicated more than forty years of his life (beginning in an official capacity in 1965) to promote, develop and enhance the status, image and popularity of bodybuilding.

A stable figure throughout Warren’s involvement was his friend and mentor, the late Dr Ben Weider.

Warrens efforts in promoting and developing the sport of Bodybuilding spans four decades and a number of continents, including the ownership of more then 30 gyms. It has been an enduring contribution to our sport.

  • South Africa (Johannesburg) beginning in the early 1960’s (1966 – 1975), these early years saw Warren host every bodybuilding great for tours throughout South Africa, in conjunction with regional and national bodybuilding championships e.g. Reg Park, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Larry Scott, Frank Zane, Boyer Coe, Dave Draper, Chris Dickerson, Serg Nubret, Roy Hilligen and Franco Columbo, including Chris Dickerson who was the first non white bodybuilder to visit South Africa.

Warren is the Founding President of the South Pacific Bodybuilding Federation (SPBBF). He is a central figure that helped the sport of bodybuilding achieve official recognition status with the South Pacific Games Council (now known as the Pacific Games Council) and the Oceania National Olympic Committees (ONOC).

The sport of bodybuilding, by way of the South Pacific Bodybuilding Federation (SPBBF) continues to steward its status as one of the respected optional sports that are governed/stewarded by the Pacific Games Council.

Bodybuilding was one of the most popular sports that featured at South Pacific Games held in Samoa 2007 and also in Fiji 2003. It is pleasing to note Bodybuilding has recently been confirmed on the programme for the 2011 Pacific Games which are being hosted in New Caledonia. The 2011 Pacific Games have in fact been awarded to  the SPBBF to manage and coordinate.

Aside from dedicating his time and resources over many years to advance the sport of bodybuilding, Warren Langman was also a competitive bodybuilder achieving national and international honours, as well as winning numerous powerlifting and benchpress titles including the 1971 South African Powerlifting Championships.

Warren credits his long time friend, the late, Reg Park for getting him into competitive bodybuilding, as it was Reg’s gym that he first joined in 1960.

Bodybuilding titles Warren won include; Mr South Africa, Mr Transvaal and winning the Masters British Columbia Championships. Placing 4th at the 1972 Mr Universe. The Mr Universe was a memorable event because his friend Arnold Schwarzenegger (Now Govenor of California) assisted him with his posing.

Warren’s wife Cynthia and their family supported his endeavors and allowed him to give his time for the betterment of our sport over many years and we are pleased he is now enjoying more quality time with his family and those close to him.

Warren and his wife Cynthia lived in the beautiful tropical surrounds of Norfolk Island for the past 22 years and have just recently relocated to Australia.
